Do I need to seal the cut edges?

Yes, and it matters more than moving up a grade. Every cut exposes the core, and an unsealed edge draws moisture in regardless of how good the panel is. Band it, prime it, or at minimum lacquer the hidden edges.

Why a 6 × 4 sheet rather than 8 × 4?

Shutter and carcass components rarely need the full 2440 mm length. A 1830 mm sheet matches typical shutter heights more closely, so a higher proportion of the panel ends up in the job rather than in the offcut pile.

Is 18 mm enough for a shelf?

For a span up to about 750 mm carrying ordinary household load, yes. Beyond that, either add a support, increase to 25 mm, or move to a block board, which resists sag better over a long run.

Tulsi T-Power is a BWP bonded panel built on a hardwood core with a full-core Gurjan face veneer, in an alternate red-white layup.

The supplied specification is 18 mm in 1830 × 1220 mm (6 × 4 ft) sheets, packed nine sheets to a bundle. That size suits shutter and carcass work where a full 8 × 4 sheet would mostly become offcut.

The board is marked smooth, strong and sturdy — which in practice means a calibrated face ready for lamination and a core dense enough to hold hardware under load.
